In 1993, the UN established March 22 as World Water Day to highlight issues related to water. This year’s theme is “Water and Sustainable Development,” which focuses on how water is interconnected with a wide array of industries that need to be considered as we build a better future. Here are a couple ideas on how to celebrate World Water Day in San Diego – today and throughout the year.
- Follow the standard immediate water-saving tips:
- turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
- take shorter showers
- eat less meat (more water is utilized through the lifespan of a cow, for instance, than plants or even chickens would use)
- don’t use plastic water bottles (each bottle takes additional water to create the plastic)
- wash your car at commercial car washes instead of at home
- only run dishwashers when full
- fix any leaks
