Silicon Valley Comic Con launched with a bang March 18-20, 2016 at the San Jose Convention Center. The first-year con was large in scale – both in terms of attendance and offerings. It had just the right dash of celebrity power, a blend of exhibitors – including some not usually seen (virtual reality, museums, extensive fan club area), and a vibrant albeit somewhat cramped Artist Alley. I enjoyed meeting writers and creators, and took home two books this con: Station Breaker by Andrew Mayne and The Softwire: Virus on Orbis 1 by PJ Haarsma.
There was a strong offering of panels and good variety too. Since I had limited time at this convention, I only made it to a few: Jeremy Renner, Nathan Fillion, and the Back to the Future reunion. Many of the space-themed panels looked very intriguing and, while I’m bummed to have missed out, I’m glad to see these types of panels on the schedule.
Given how popular the convention was this year, and based on the comments of attendees around me, I’d be surprised if it didn’t get even bigger and better next year.
